If we were describing a batting average, or, on base percentage, we would be describing an MVP candidate. If we were describing a slugging percentage, only Ryan Church (.522) has a better slugging percentage, among the Mets.
However, we are describing the Mets’ winning percentage, after last night’s 7-2 win, over Colorado. The Mets are 36-36, with 90 games remaining. They’ve won two in a row. The Phillies have lost three in a row. The Marlins and Braves also lost last night. The Mets are now four and a half games behind the Phillies, and two and a half games behind the Marlins, with the Braves dropping to a game and a half behind the Mets.
.500 also becomes a benchmark. The Mets’ goal is to make it the worst winning percentage they’ll have for the rest of the season. With the Phillies having lost seven out of their last ten, including their last three, the Mets need to win tonight, and keep the pressure on the Phillies.

4 1/2 back of the Cheese Steaks, but more importantly, only three in the loss column. They are only two back in the loss column from Florida, and are now ahead of the Braves and Washington. Win one game at a time, one game at a time.
