Our friend, Adam Rubin, reports that Jerry Manuel told him that Andy Phillips is outfield “inventory,” not a righty-hitting alternative that will chip away at Carlos Delgado’s at-bats. With Ryan Church’s return imminent, the Mets are lefty-heavy in the outfield, which means Trot Nixon may go when Church is activated. Third catcher Robinson Cancel was optioned to New Orleans to make room for Phillips, who will join the team Friday.

Totally absurd. DelStatue is 0-14 in his last 14 AB's, plays a terrible 1B, and can't hit anymore. DelStatue has fat cat syndrome. The Mets should drop DelStatue. He hurts this team. He is at the top of the list of aged/over paid has beens, and he needs to feel the heat of healthy competition. Otherwise, this Phillips acquisition is totally useless.
What are the Mets thinking? Has the organization gone insane?
Put Phillips at 1st and send the message that no one is safe. Maybe they will wake up and get the message.
