Church Expected to Return by Friday vs. Yankees...

Our friend, Adam Rubin, of the Daily News, reports that Ryan Church appears ready to return for this weekend's Subway Series. The right fielder, who went on the disabled list two weeks ago with post-concussion symptoms, is scheduled to take batting practice at Shea Monday. Jerry Manuel expects Church to begin a rehab assignment with the Brooklyn Cyclones tomorrow at Hudson Valley.

(Provided Ryan Church is healthy, mentally and physically, it will be great to see him return. Church's 2008 stats Church has been a tremendous surprise, providing quality defense & reliable offense that sparks the lineup when batting 2nd or 5th.)

SPLIT DECISION: Mike Pelfrey is expected to draw the day game in the Bronx, with Pedro Martinez getting the evening contest at Shea, when the Mets and Yankees have their split-stadium doubleheader Friday.

(Game one is at 2:05 P.M. in the Bronx, and the nightcap is at 8:10 at Shea)
