The clock is ticking on Willie...

David Lennon and Ken Davidoff of Newsday report that Willie has this weekend's games vs. Texas to prove himself, or he's done.

Apparently, hitting coach Howard Johnson, and pitching coach, Rick Petersen will also be gone, if Willie leaves.

Mets' bench coach, Jerry Manuel, is seen as the heir apparent, to "babysit" the team for the rest of the season, if Willie leaves. Manuel would be judged as interim manager, and if they're not happy with him, one would see a different manager for 2009.
