First inning: Manuel exerting his authority: He removed Reyes from the game after a single. Reyes pulled up a little lame, and Manuel decided to remove him. Reyes was furious, slamming his helmet down as he left the field. Reyes was replaced by Easley. Reyes went into the clubhouse, and at the end of the inning Manuel followed Reyes into the clubhouse, and wasn't on the bench (Manuel) for the start of the bottom half of the first. This might bear some watching. Welcome to the Manuel era. More importantly, let's hope Reyes isn't injured badly.
Another move by Manuel was to have Fernando Tatis start at 3B, and David Wright DH.

I think Wright as Dh was something Gump discussed before game 1 of this series. Also I cant believe how the first batter of the game becomes a little issue for Mr Manuel. I know the guys in the booth were shocked by it. I also feel like Anderson is still hurt cause he isnt really running fast to get those balls hit to him. ...
I HATE Alomar Sr. as the bench coach. He was Willie's first bench coach, and I felt he was horrible , and that Willie improved as a manager, when Manuel was his bench coach.
I LOVE that Manuel speaks confidently, handles the media comfortably, and is showing his players that he is in charge of them, and not vice-versa. Wright wanted to play 3B last night, and was TOLD he was going to DH. Willie used to let the players dictate to him. With Manuel, it's going to be the pther way around. Good for him !
Words cannot describe how happy I am to see Manuel follow Reyes into the clubhouse, and stay in there to solve the situation, even if it meant that Sandy takes over for the bottom of the first. Managers are paid to manage the varying egos of 25 different personalitites. Manuel was managing Reyes, a player he will need production from, and he stayed with Reyes to manage the situation. Outstanding job by Manuel whose first impression is that he is taking this opportunity very seriously, realizing it may be the last managing opportunity he may receive.
