The Mets thought they lucked out, this evening, when Felix Hernandez left the game in the 5th inning, with a sprained ankle, while covering home plate. He was dishing it, to the Mets, but then he was gone, and the Mets thought there was a chance to come back. The Mariners' bullpen has an ERA over 4.00 and they were 1 short in the bullpen tonight, since Miguel Batista is going to be the starter on Wednesday. So what did the Mets do against the relievers ? Basically nothing, until the 9th inning, when Reyes led off with a hit, then a Wright walk, and a Beltran single to drive in Castillo, who was on with a fielder's choice. So, now its 5-2, with 1 out and 2 on, with Mr. Delgado up. This is the guy who has been taking extra batting practice, to hit to the opposite field, etc. Well, the Mariners bring in their 38 yr old phenom, Arthur Rhodes, who had Tommy John surgery, and he just made Delgado regress to old ways, and he whiffed on a couple of 93 m.p.h. inside fastballs. With Delgado going back to the bench, talking to himself, it was up to Damion Easley...Well, he fared no better, and struck out, and the Mets start their home stand with a loss. Of course, Santana takes the loss, with the Mets only scoring 2 runs, and him giving up a GRAND SLAM, to the opposing pitcher. Couple of notes here, Jerry has the Mets altering their batting practice, with taking less swings. Right now, it's not working. The Mets have 10 hits in 2 games. Wright looks lost, and the only one who is hitting the ball, right now, is Beltran. It's not a good start to a series, when you lose to a team that has basically, nothing to play for.
