As a follow-up to our post from earlier today, "Roster Moves ???", the other half of the transaction sending Abraham Nunez to AAA, has been solved.
Outfielder Chris Aguila has been called up from AAA, New Orleans.
Aguila was hitting .308 at AAA with a .384 OBP and a .584 SLG in 62 games, and 221 at-bats. He had 8 doubles, 17 HR’s, 40 RBI’s, and some speed, stealing 7 bases out of 10 attempts. He has been in the majors, with the Marlins, and was actually born (02/23/1979) after the bicentennial, differentiating himself from many of his teammates. Imagine that, Omar, someone under the age of 30, who may be able to help. AND, he was on the AAA roster. I hope this becomes a trend.
Gump (a.k.a. Randolph) sometimes will start a call-up immediately, so he's not sitting on the bench, loaded with nerves. If Alou's calf is tight tonight, Aguila may start in left. With Brandon Webb starting tonight, I don't know if Gump will take the lefty-hitting Chavez out of right field.
We'll see...Good luck, Aguila. We need some (relatively) younger players to succeed, to give Willie & Omar some ideas that they may need to do this more often.
