Sidney Ponson update…

Ponson, who has bounced around Major League Baseball, and had his share of off the field concerns, was recently released by the Texas Rangers.

Jon Heyman, of Sports Illustrated, reports that nothing short of desperation caused the Yankees to bring back troubled pitcher Sidney Ponson.

(What happened to their wonderful farm system, with numerous pitching prospects ? They didn’t have anything at AAA, or even AA, that they could have called up ?)

They'll need a sixth starter since they have a day-night doubleheader vs. the Mets Friday, and Ponson appears likely to get a start.

(If Ponson faces the Mets, they have no excuses if they can’t score early runs off him, and get him out of the game in five innings or less, with a Mets’ lead. To borrow a phrase from Adam Schein, of SNY’s Loud Mouths, “if Sidney Ponson is the answer, then what is the question ?”)
