Meet Ken Oberkfell...

Ken Oberkfell, since the termination of Tom Nieto, is now the first base coach of the Mets. Oberkfell has spent eight years in the Mets organization, working his way up the ladder, to hopefully one day achieve his dream; being a major league manager. In 2005, he was named Baseball America's Minor League Manager Of The Year.

Oberkfell manages the way he played; hard. He was your typical blue-collar player. He always studied the game, and tried to out-smart his opponents if he physically wasn't as gifted as they were.

It is rumored that Jeff Wilpon loves Oberkfell, and that might afford him an opportunity to manage with the Mets, if the Mets decide to go in another direction next year. He has paid his dues managing at different levels of the minor leagues, cutting his teeth and learning more about the game he loves. For more on Oberkfell, please read David Wilhelm's article in the Belleville News-Democrat.
