Marty Noble, of www.mlb.com, reports that the current winning stretch, the longest active streak in the big leagues, is one of 17 in franchise history that have lasted at least eight games, the most recent coming in 2006.
From June 7 through June 15 that year, the Mets won eight games without a loss.
That was the fourth streak of eight games in club history.
Four other streaks have lasted 11 games, three have lasted 10 games and five have lasted nine games.
Two of the 11-game streaks were accomplished by teams that won the World Series.
The '69 Mets had an 18-23 record when they launched their streak in late May.
The '86 Mets quickly separated themselves from the other teams in the National League East, winning games six through 16 after they had lost three of their first five.
The 1972 team pushed its record to 25-7 by winning 11 straight games in May.
The other 11-game streak happened, in 1990, and is comparable to the current streak, because it occurred after a change of managers, Davey Johnson to Bud Harrelson.
Under Harrelson, the Mets won 10 of 17 games before the streak began. The 11 straight victories put their record at 41-29 and them in first place.
Harrelson's Mets produced another extended streak the following summer; it also was comparable to the current streak, because of timing. Beginning July 1, 1991, the Mets won 10 straight games, a streak than spanned the All-Star break, seven victories preceding the break, and three following it. The streak ran through July 13.
