I hate both teams, but, have an ulterior motive in both losing. The Phillies start a series in Atlanta, tonight.
Philly is in first, with the Mets in third place, 3 and ½ games behind.
Atlanta is in fourth, a half game behind the Mets, 4 games behind Philly.
I guess I have to root for Atlanta (brief pause, while awaiting lightning to strike me dead), and hope the Mets win tonight, so that the Mets can stay in 3rd place, the Phillies lose, and the Mets & Braves (grudgingly) gain a game on Philly.
A monkey wrench in these plans are that the Marlins are in 2nd place, only a ½ game out. If Philly loses, and the Marlins win, there’s a new first place team, and the Mets & Braves would be 3 games, and 3 and ½ games, respectively, behind Florida, if the Marlins, Mets & Braves win tonight, while Philly loses, and drops to second place.
Am I actually rooting for Atlanta, or rooting for a long, extra inning game (20 + innings would suffice) in which both teams are spent afterwards, and maybe a few nagging injuries (hamstring, quad) occur from playing a long, tiring game.
How about ???
Go Atlanta, in a 25-inning game…
