John Maine the stopper?

John Maine comes off the DL tomorrow to pitch against the Nationals. What if he was placed in the bullpen to the 9th inning instead?

That question was asked of him in a semi serious matter in a story over at Newsday.

He said he would do what is asked of him and he didn’t think it would affect his arm if he pitched 15 pitches 3 -4 times a week.

He has been pretty effective in the first inning of starts is the mindset on this idea.

I’m sure after yesterday’s blown save, which is the Mets 20th of the season, Jerry Manuel is asking, can anybody get 3 outs in the 9th inning?
