On August 7th the Mets held a baseball clinic for 50 kids from Harlem. The main attraction, Carlos Beltran, gave the children instruction on bunting, how to hold a bat, how to be comfortable in the batters box when you prepare to swing, and how he attempts to cover the entire plate when he swings.
Beltran stressed the importance of education to the youngsters; they should be sure to complete their education. He stressed that we must be good family and community members. He also explained that you must give your best effort in whatever you do, stating, "Don't waste your time, do your best all the time."
The clinic was held at Shea Stadium, and the youngsters got a thrill as other Mets players waved to them as they entered the park.
"Beltran thanked the kids for coming to Shea for the clinic, 'I enjoyed it very much,' he said.'Harlem RBI is a 17-year-old community organization that started in East Harlem, New York, where we took [over] a couple of abandoned ballfields,' Harlem RBI Club Executive Director Richard A. Berlin explained. 'It has since grown into a thriving youth development program. All of our kids play on baseball and softball teams and Carlos [Beltran] happens to be our honorary commissioner. So we are out here getting our kids special access to the Mets star centerfielder.”

Ahh Beltran the man of many words! Good post! The kids I'm sure were in awe of him and the field!
I would have been in awe! There's nothing like being on the field at Shea. Had the pleasure a couple of times at concerts there: The Police and Simon & Garfunkel. For those youngsters to have that opportunity, must have been great.
