Back in 1982 The Mets didn't really have much going for them . Joel Youngblood has been on the Team since 1977. He played a multitude of positions. He was a pretty decent player on mostly bad Met teams. he had a distinct batting stance almost Felix Milan ish .In 1979 for the Mets he hit .275 with 16 home runs and 60 rbi's
Well he made history the day he was traded from the Mets to the Expos on Aug 4th 1982. He started the game for the Mets and had a hit that drove in the winning run against the Cubs . He was then traded to the expos and was inserted in there lineup in the 4th inning and slammed a single against the Phillies. He was the first player to have 2 hits in 2 different cities for 2 different teams.
He finished his career with the Reds . He presently is working for the Diamondbacks triple AAA team in Tucson.

Back in the late 70's (maybe '79)I had a Mets jersey with #18 and Youngblood on the back. I had to stop wearing it in 1983 when Darryl Strawberry became #18.
Youngblood was my favorite player on a bad Mets team. He played a solid RF with a strong throwing arm. I could never get used to him playing 2B, eventhough I have heard that was his natural position.
Nice post!
