Transactions:
On this date in 1964, the Mets traded Frank Lary to the Milwaukee Braves for Dennis Ribant (a trade that still has Mets fans talking!).
1997: The Mets sent Lance Johnson, Mark Clark and Manny Alexander to the Chicago Cubs for Turk Wendell, Mel Rojas and Brian McRae.
Mets fans grew to love Turk. He was the sleeper of that trade. Turk was a left-hander trapped in a right-hander’s body. His little idiosyncrasies got the fans at Shea to embrace him. Whether it was jumping over the baseline on his way to the dugout, brushing his teeth between innings, wearing the teeth of his prey around his neck, or dusting a batter off who crowded the plate – he became a fan favorite.
