Last night metsfan73 had the pleasure of taking the family to Shea to watch the Mets-Expos/Nationals game.
The Mets got off to a nice start, taking a 2-0 lead, but OP rapidly gave-up the lead. As most of you already know, it was a roller coaster night; a real “pitchers duel”. The Nats tied it at 2, the Mets went ahead 5-2, the Nats not only tied, but went ahead 7-5, before the Mets tied it again at 7. The next inning, the fifth, the Nats went ahead 8-5.
Now, last year, you could have stuck a fork in the Mets. Not this year. In the home sixth, Carlos Beltran decided he had enough of this see-saw, and promptly launched a two run blast to left center, to put the Mets ahead for good. With the Mets ahead 9-8, Carlos DelStatue wasn’t going to be out-done, and swiftly launched his second blast of the night, putting the final nail in the National coffin.
Having had the pleasure of seeing the great Mets teams of the mid-late 1980’s, as well as attending an NLCS game six in 2006, the volume of this small crowd with chants of “MVP” every time DelStatue walked to the plate was deafening. I am not stating it was louder than NLCS game six in ’06, just saying that for so few people, the joint was rockin’.
I am a baseball purist, and I would rather see a 1-0 pitchers duel than a 10-8 game, but putting that aside, it was a fun game to watch. The most fun I had last night though, was watching my little girls’ face light up after a home run to see the apple come out of the hat.
As for my two older boys, seeing them really starting to appreciate the game and make insightful comments, or have good questions is a father’s dream come true. I hope you all can experience it some day if you haven’t already.

Sounds like a fun evening at Shea. The Mets are finding a way to win and not lose but the hairs of my head are falling out daily and looking mighty grey. Keep up the faith and LET'S GO METROPOLITANS.
