I guess it is expected. He feels now that with his turnaround that he is back in form and wants to play more then just 1 year for the Mets. The Mets didn’t feel like it was the right time to extend Delgado’s contract past 1 year so they just picked up his option.
I think the wrist that he hurt is what kind of led to the problems he faced until he picked it up this summer. Look at how Big Papi was affected when he came back.
Mets made the smart move not extending his contract.
