Many closers on open Market might help the Mets

If the Mets are going to sign on a free agent closer or trade for one , the announcement this past week that Trevor Hoffman and Kerry Wood will not be signing with the Padres and Cubs adds more closer arms to the market. This can help the Mets in regards to driving some prices down.

Not that I want to see Trevor Hoffman or the often injured Kerry Wood in a Mets uniform, it makes the market a lot more full of potential closers that can help the Mets in there quest for someone to fill the 9th inning spot. If Omar uses this to his advantage it might drive the prices down on Brian Fuentes. K-Rod I would still like to pass on. The trade market for a closer might be the way to go if the Mets don't have to give up a lot of young talent.
