Johan Likely To Miss WBC?

David Lennnon - Newsday has the interview Johan Santana had with the press today. Speaking about playing in the World Baseball Classic, Santana said he will have to wait until Spring Training when the Mets medical staff checks him out. He will not be permitted to play without medical clearance. Santana is recovering from surgery to his left knee from a torn meniscus.

When asked about bringing Oliver Perez back, Santana said, “Oliver is a guy that has learned a lot from last year and we had a good time with him. Hopefully Omar finds a way to keep him. He’s learned a lot of things from last year. He learned that every game is important. I told him from the beginning it doesn’t matter what you do tomorrow. Learn from today and you’ll be fine tomorrow. Sometimes he lets his emotions take over. I’m pretty sure he’ll improve this year. Hopefully Omar finds a way to keep him in New York. He’s not just a great teammate. He’s going to be a good pitcher too.”

His feelings on the “New” Bullpen: “One thing for sure is we were looking for improvement and Omar is looking for improvement. Hopefully that is the case this year. But we have to be consistent with the starting rotation, defensively, offensively, and the bullpen of course. Put all those things together and we’ll have a good year. Hopefully this year we’ll be more consistent. To add Frankie (Rodriguez) is a big improvement. We’re looking forward for the games to come and compete. That’s the most important thing.”

The point about Ollie understanding ever game is so important that you hope that Oliver comprehends . Good stuff!
