A Few Observations From Spring Training

David Lennon - Newsday is making an observation that the Mets are starting to find their identity without Pedro this Spring. Pedro always commanded the attention from the press, and was always a good quote. John Maine was matter of fact about Pedro when he said, "Pedro's Pedro. He's one of the best pitchers to ever play this game -- arguably the most dominating pitcher to every play. But it's baseball. You've just got to move on."

Lennon also noticed have well the Mets are getting along, citing the chemistry,
“The Mets' rotation doesn't have CC Sabathia, Derek Lowe or even Pedro Martinez anymore. But what it appears to have is chemistry and a sense of purpose, two things already on display before spring training has officially started.”

Regarding the number of pitchers (and players) already in camp, Maine said,
"That's the first time I really put it together that we were all down here. We all realize the potential that we have."

Lastly, Lennon noted that Oliver Perez looks relieved to be in camp. Quoting Maine again, "He is a little out there. But he's a good person to hang out with. He's fun, always joking around. I've never really seen him get down. He's always the same -- good or bad -- and it's refreshing to see that."
