Today Jerry Manuel said he is looking forward to speaking to the team...about last year's collapse. Manuel said he will not skirt around the Demise of 2008. He will be honest about the failure, and will not only address it with returning players, but with all new comers.
Manuel believes that bringing it to the attention of returning...and new Met players is necessary. To have the players from last year's Mets team explain how disappointing and hurtful last season's implosion was will be a useful learning experience, and the team will be able to grow.
To this, Metsfan73 says BRAVO! Under the Willie Gump regime, it was never addressed, and it was swept under the rug. This philosophy failed miserably, and since Randolph wouldn't address it head on, the players were left to answer the questions, and to be reminded daily of the failures of '07. With General Manuel leading our troops for a full year, I believe the clubhouse will be focused, but loose. Under Randolph, they were robotic, and didn't know how to handle the adversity, because their former manager didn't understand how to handle the adversity. Manuel will be a breath a fresh air, and I think he will, if he hasn't already, have the media eating out of his hand.
