Will Marlon Be Sheffield Out Of Town?

Saturday Livan Hernandez will make his Mets debut. With his debut forthcoming, the Mets will have to make a roster move.

With the signing of Gary Sheffield, it appears that it will be inevitable that Marlon Anderson will be released. The other option the Mets have would be to demote Darren O’Day.

O’Day is a Rule V draft pick, and must remain on the roster for the year. If the Mets remove him from the pro roster, he will have to pass through waivers to be returned to the Minor Leagues.

According to Jerry Manuel, "If we think we can get by a certain way, we'll do that. But we're also coming into a situation where our fifth starter, you don't know how well that is at this point.

"You have to always protect pitching. You have to protect pitching. Sometimes that guy never gets into a game, but at least you have that protection. That has to be a part of the mindset going into making that decision."

Sounds ominous for Marlon. The Mets don’t plan on making a decision until the last minute.
