Tonight the Mets shut the Phillies out by the score of 1-0. Johan Santana was ALL BUSINESS as was Francisco Rodriguez and Fernando Tatis.
The Mets only garnered two hits while the Phillies accomplished three. The terrible phielding Phillies had three errors.
Johan pitched seven innings, rendering two hits, walking three, and striking out 10. Santana was masterful. He kept the Phillies off guard by mixing his change-up and fastball.
Fernando Tatis, who by this blogger will forever be known as "SeƱor Clutch", came through with an RBI single, while hustling down the line. Tatis pinch hit for Jeremy Reed, hit a broken bat infield dribbler to third. He clearly beat the throw, but the throw from third baseman Pedro Feliz went awry, and down the RF line. Carlos DelGado, not exactly hustling, scored all the way from first. When all was said and done, Tatis was at third. This guy, no matter when he plays, always makes things happen. Although the run was unearned, it was key.
Carlos Beltran's hitting streak, 16 games, came to an abrupt halt.
Francisco Rodriguez pitched a strong ninth for the save.
This was an old fashioned pitchers duel, with the best pitcher in baseball reigning triumphant. For the first time in a long time, our Mets were ALL BUSINESS!
