Tonight the Mets defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-3, extending their winning streak to five games, and Bobby Parnell, in relief for Jonathan Niese, earned his first professional win.
The Mets (15-13) remain a half game behind Philadelphia (15-12) in second place.
Jonathan Niese, a substitute starter for the injured Oliver Perez, pitched 6 innings, surrendering two runs while striking out five.
Carlos DelGado was the star of the game, going 3-4 with a HR and five RBI's.
JJ Putz, filling in for K-Rod who was given the night off, had a scary ninth, giving up one hit, one run, two walks, and two strikeouts before finishing the game getting Nate McClouth to fly out to Beltran.
The series against Pittsburgh continues tomorrow afternoon at Gil Hodges Memorial Park at 1:10.
