Late Heroics Help Mets Top DBacks

Is the streak back on? After a five game winning streak, then a two game losing streak, the Mets got back to their winning ways with a dramatic come from behind 9-6 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Mets were down quickly 1-0 in the first inning when third place hitter Justin Upton took Ollie deep.

In the fourth, the DBacks went up 2-0 when Augie Ojeda singled past Alex Cora who was drawn in to cut the run down at the plate.

In the Mets fourth, they took a 4-2 lead when they played small ball. The first three Mets batters all reached on singles - Murphy, Francoeur, and Sullivan. After a Cora ground out which scored Francoeur in with the tying run (Murphy scored on Sullivan's single), Schneider then doubled scoring Sullivan with the go ahead run. The Mets fourth inning scoring ended when Pagan knocked in the first of his five RBI with a sacrifice fly to right.

As always with these Mets, a lead is never forever. The Mets gave back the two run lead when the Diamondbacks scored twice in the sixth, tying the score at 5.

In the Mets eighth, with bases juiced and one out, Angel Pagan launched his first homerun since July 2007, by hitting a Grand Slam deep to left. Pagan's blast gave the Mets a 9-5 lead.

In the ninth, Brian Stokes gave back a run when he allowed a HR to Arizona's 3B Mark Reynolds. Francisco Rodriguez came in to slam the door on the DBacks, retiring the lone batter he would face, to preserve a 9-6 Mets victory.

The third game of this four game set is Sunday afternoon at 1:10 on SNY.
