Mets sign Matz there first pick in draft

The Mets last night signed Stephen Matz, their first overall pick, for $895,000. This is about 400,000 over the slot that is set as a guideline for Major League baseball. It was either go over slot or lose there first pick.

Keith Law from ESPN said“Matz has some violence in his delivery,” Law added, “but he’s athletic and has shown feel for both a changeup and a curveball while touching 94.”

Matz graduated from Ward Melville High School on Long Island. Of course he is a Met fan!

The Nats also landed there first pick Strasburg right at the deadline for a cool price around 15M
