NY Mets LF Gary Sheffield thinks he will no be wearing a Mets uniform by season's end. In an article by Mark Miller - Yahoo Sports, he quotes Sheffield as saying, "Based on what I know now, no, I do not think I will be here. But if I am sent to a team that I don't want to play for, I would go home.
"I have to look at everything. People always say they are going to do the right thing for you, but sometimes it doesn't work out that way. If I don't take care of myself, who will? That's what I focus on." *
Sheffield was placed on waivers by the Mets, claimed by another team, then removed from waivers. It is believed that both the Rangers and Marlins have interest.
Manager Jerry Manuel, hopefully fully recovered from his 'Hoof In Mouth' disease, said, "There's no doubt in my mind he could help [next season. Gary's situation probably depends more on his health than anything, but as far as a hitter on this level, no doubt." *
Sheffield, who will be 41 later this year, has had a respectable season, but the Mets need to look towards youth, and might be well served to either get some young talent back for Sheff, or to not re-sign him for 2010.
