Jon Heyman On Twitter reports that the Giants were the team that claimed Gary Sheffield on the Waiver Wire. The Mets pulled him back.
Heyman, and me too, wonder if the Mets are regretting that decision.
As reported by Kevin Burkhardt during tonight's game on WPIX 11, Sheffield had asked for an extension in his contract, which the Mets declined. Sheffield got upset, and then started with the complaining. Burkhardt made it sound that he doesn't think Sheff will finish the year with the Mets.
Problem with Sheffield is when he isn't happy, no one is happy. He is a malcontent when he doesn't get his way. Gary has to understand that he is a fill in player, and that's why the Mets signed him. He will be 41 by season's end, not 31.
Sheffield was not in the starting line-up tonight. Sheff said he is 100% healthy, but Manuel said he was giving him the night off "to clear his head."

Sheff had to expect the mets would decline his offer. That is why he is trying to force the issue for the Mets to either put him on waivers or just have him walk away...
