Thole To Get His First Start

Mets catching prospect, Josh Thole, is expected to get his first Major League start in Thursday afternoon's finale against the Rockies.

As you may recall, Thole was brought up with the roster expansion on September 1st.

Metsfan73 would love to see Thole get the majority of the starts going down the stretch. It would benefit the Mets to see this kid first hand, so that they can make a decision on catcher going into the off season.

It is unlikely Brian Schneider will be back, and if the Mets can make a determination to when they think Thole will be ready, it would make their off season decisions a bit easier. Do they go after a A.J. Pierzynski for a year or so until Thole is ready? Do they believe Omir Santos is capable of being a starter? Personally, I don't, but that being said, you never know what the Mets thinking is. Do they think Thole will be ready for the bigs next year?

This is the time of year the Mets should play their youngsters more to assist them in evaluating what they have, and when they might be able to help the parent club down the road. Hopefully this won't be another wasted opportunity for this organization.
