Good things so far in Mets camp. Rookies and veterans shine

Ok so losing Beltran and Reyes are not what you want to start off your year for 2010. Despite those loses we do have some things that to look at as the Mets head into there official off day before they run the table right up to the beginning of April and opening day which is now less then 3 weeks away.

In the pitching front you have to tip your cap to Mr Takahsi who is a breath of fresh air with the way he is able to throw strikes. Now if you listened in on the broadcast yesterday Bobbie O would like to see him expand the strike zone. The guy has 4 pitchers that he can throw for strikes. The Mets right now will let the last 2 weeks play out before they render a decision on the Japanese pitcher.

Everyone has loved Jenry Mejia .Manager Jerry says he has electric stuff. He has been able to throw strikes and his pitches have movement. David Wright has even taken to the 20 year old.

Lets not forget its great to see the ace Johan out there pitching after season ending surgery.

Also I would like to give a shout out to everyone’s fall guy Luis Castillo. He has picked up where he has left off from 2009. The guy everyone wants to trade is hitting .300 already and is getting on base as expected.

Ike Davis has been hammering the ball in his first big league camp. He is hitting over .500 as the Mets future first baseman. Omar has said no matter what the kid will be starting at triple AAA this season. If Murphy starts off slow and Davis has a decent start we might see the kid before the All Star break.

Of course its tough to get fired up when we know this is all just spring. Many a time things don’t translate when the season starts but for once it is really nice to see some of the kids in the Mets organization shine. The Mets have always been abused for there minor league system. There system right now ranks 15th in the Major Leagues. It might not be great but at least there is some hype and some prospects that might be legitimate.
