Johan Santana on track to pitch first game next tuesday against the Astros

It will be the next mini event I am sure of it. Now that Jason Bay has played his first game and Jose Reyes will be on the field later today, the Mets ace pitcher will get the limelight next week.

David Lennon of Newsday says Johan Santana threw a 40 pitch simulated game yesterday at Tradition Field.

Lennon mentions that catcher Rod Barajas had this to say about the Mets ace:

“His changeup is such a natural pitch…It looks like he could pick up a ball in December and be as good as anybody.”

Santana told Lennon he was unable to extend his arm fully on his pitches last year due to the problems with his elbow, but now he has the ability to extend on all of his pitches and let everything go.

It is really downright unerving what the Mets due to there players that are injured.

Look for Johan to pitch next tuesday at Pt St Lucie against the Houston Astros, who the Mets swept at the end of 09.
