Mejia,Davis,Mets clubhouse, Q&A wrap up of chat with Dave Lennon-Newsday

Earlier today Dave Lennon was nice enough to wake up and have a chat with me and yeah a bunch of we have enough after only 7 games Met fans. Below are some of the highlights. Including an interesting note about Ike Davis.

What's the bright side for the Mets right now? Can you think of something?

DL Reyes is improving with two more hits last night and looks better defensively. Wright has two homers in 7 games, that ahead of last year;s pace. Jon Niese and Mike Pelfrey seem to have an idea of what they're doing. Jason Bay finally got his first RBI last night. The Korean food stand at Citi is a great new touch.

So, can we do a Trachsel on Maine and send him to the minors? I mean, honestly, whatever body fills his spot in the meantime can't be much worse.

DL I'm thinking the DL could be a real possibility for Maine. It would be easy enough after his stumble off the mound last night or just he's been bothered by more shoulder fatigue. He can't pitch with that 88 mph fastball, and unless there's more zip on it, Maine can't be effective with his breaking pitches.

I see your comment on Omar and logic dictates that it is hard to change GM midstream, but a good GM brings his own manager with him, and they must do something with Jerry if only to boost attendance. Why not do both at once?

DL Too much to tackle midseason. They can make someone like Bob Melvin the interim manager, then sort out the GM/manager mess at end of season. One intriguing situation would be the availability of Joe Torre, who is winding down his last year with Dodgers.(no way!) He would ask for tons of cash, though. Maybe too pricey for the Mets.

Will the Mets send Mejia back to the minors if the rest of the bullpen continues to pitch well?

DL I think they should . I was a proponent of using Mejia in the bullpen - and took a lot of heat for it. But if he's not being much of a factor, and the rest of the relief corp is doing well, then maybe there will come a time soon when it makes sense to send him down to become a starter again.

When they say the Mets clubhouse is better this year then 2009 , is it due to the additions of Francouoer and bay or is more for the subtractions of delgado or someone else? What is making it better?

DL A little of both. The additions of Francoeur and Bay definitely helped. And seeing Delgado in the clubhouse again yesterday made be realize that things were a little more tense when he was around. It may have been best that they parted ways.

Who do you think will be back first, Murphy or Beltran?

DL Murphy. But I'm not sure what his job situation will look at that time.
Maybe Davis will be at first base by then.
