In a word...OUCH. Willie Harris once again drives a serrated iron stake through the heart of the Mets and their fans.
The Mets, once again, missed a few opportunities to pull out a win against the Nationals, dropping their record to 2-3.
In the ninth inning, trailing 4-3, Jose Reyes led off with a single, but was given a huge STOP sign because Jerry Manuel didn't want to push him too hard on his return game. Alex Cora then sacrificed Reyes to second with a bunt. Wright walked, putting runners on first and second.
The most crucial AB was that of Jason Bay. Bay, letting the first two pitches go by, very hittable pitches, and then struck out on a pitch down and away.
Jeff Francoeur, showing patience worked out a walk to load the bases.
Rod Barajas pinch hit for Henry Blanco, and hit a game winning line drive to LF...oh wait, Willie Harris made a diving catch thus ending a Mets attempted comeback that was Too Much Too Little Too Late...
Once again the Mets were impaled by the glove work of Willie Harris, who by the way was just moved over to LF for defensive purposes...Remember when he stole a HR from Carlos Delgado while with the Braves? How 'bout robbing Ryan Church of a HR while with the Nationals?
