Who was that # 42 on the Mound for the Mets last night.

Talk about a gem. When there is a story every day how the Mets need to change this and change that it was nice to see somone stand up and take the mound and just let his pitching do the talking for the Mets.

Yesterday afternoon it was 6-7, #42, Mike Pelfrey on the day we celebrate Jackie Robinson around baseball. Going back in Mets lore that might be the best game pitched by a #42 on the Mets since Dr Ron Taylor wore that number from 67-71.

Pelfrey was able to use a variety of pitches including his sinker in dominating the Rockies as the Mets won yesterday 5-0. His control was uncanny pitching inside and outside against the Roxs. The Mets have won both games Big Pelf has played. He kept the Rockies minus, he needed a day off, Todd Helton at bay with only giving up 3 hits and walking none.

Pelf didnt even become unseemed when he had a balk with Melvin Mora at the plate. Which was cause by Mora trying to ask for time and not getting it.

Pelfrey even got a rbi with 2 outs for the Mets as they were able to hit the out of his element for a day Jorge De La Rosa.

Of course the Mets had some mental mistakes on the bases and it was not Angel Pagan! With no outs and Reyes on second and Castillo on first and Wright up, Castillo took off since there a double steal sign but Reyes stopped seeing the pitcher using a slide step. Castillo was tagged out and eventually Reyes was caught stealing.

Mike Pelfrey looked like the pitcher from 2008 and we hope to see more of that when he pitches against the Cubbies at home this coming week.

Side notes-Jeff Francoeur has a hit in each of the Mets' first nine games. ... The Rockies failed to hit a homer and also were shut out for the first time this season.
