Stick A Fork In Him - Murphy Is Done

As we reported here yesterday, Daniel Murphy was hurt while turning a DP against Syracuse. He injured his right knee, and had to be carried off the field.

An MRI proved the Mets worst fears were true; Murphy suffered a High Grade MCL Tear, and will be out at least four to six months. At this point there will be no surgery.

This injury hurts much more than one would think on the surface. With Luis Castillo being hobbled with two bad feet, Murphy's injury leaves only Alex Cora as a 2B replacement. It should be known today what will happen with Castillo. Yesterday he visited the Hospital For Special Surgery, and the Mets expect to have more information before tonight's game against the Marlins.

If Castillo does indeed need to be disabled, the Mets might very well have to recall Ruben Tejada. That spot probably would have gone to Murphy had he not incurred that devastating injury.

Are we really that confident that 2009 was only an aberration?
