Ike Davis and Beltran enjoying the month of September

Ok so the Mets have played only a handful of games as the calendar has changed from the summer sizzle of August to the last month of baseball for the Mets but at least 2 of the starters are doing pretty well.

Ike seemed to have a tough summer fighting himself as pitchers continued to pitch Davis outside and he would either roll over or stand there for strike 3. Now at least he is doing his best on going with the outside pitch and so far its paid off. Davis has 10 hits and a .385 average so far this month and a slugging percentage of .875 to go with his 3 homers and 7 rbi’s and 7 walks. His on base percentage is hovering around .500 for the month. Now pitchers I am sure will catch on quickly that Davis is going with the outside pitch and we will see how the stubborn Davis deals with that adjustment.

He hasn’t hit for much power since he came back and everyone wants the guy traded but Carlos Beltran is finally starting to pick it up in the hitting department. Yesterday for the first time that I can remember this year drive the ball to the opposite field while batting lefty for a 1st inning double. He is hitting .381 with 2 doubles and 4 rbi’s in 21 at bats. Most fans want the center fielder gone next year but I still have faith in Beltran . No one seems to realize that he really is not 100% yet and will excel next year because you know during the off season he will work to make his balky right knee stronger. We need his home run bat and would love to have an outfield of Bay.Beltran and Pagan in 2011.
