The writing was on the wall. Even Manager Jerry mentioned outside Citi Field this morning that he would be back shortly. The Mets let Jerry Manuel go this morning and he was told that his contract will not be renewed. The Mets finished 22 games under in 2009 and this year finished with 9 more wins but expectations were high going into the season. As we all know Manager Jerry wasn’t the best manager but he was a classy guy. We will miss his humor and his mis managing of the bullpen.
Omar Minaya has been relieved as well of his GM duties: John Ricco is interim GM while they search for a new GM. Jon Heyman is reporting that Minaya looks to stay on in some capacity but I guess we will wait until the press conference for confirmation.
Minaya: "for now I'm not" a member or organization. Might rejoin later, but no guarantee of that. Has freedom to seek job elsewhere
As per
AdamRubinESPN Minaya doesn't want to saddle a new GM with his predecessor. He wouldn't rule out return if new GM want him, but as of now he's out.
A presser will be held at 1:30pm from Citi Field where Jeff Wilpon will babble a bit.
This was just sent out from the Mets
We have a lot of work to do to regain your confidence and support.
Thank you for the opportunity to do so.

Thank you for your support during another extremely disappointing season. Like you, all of us at the Mets had high expectations for 2010 and we did not come close to meeting them. Since reaching the National League Championship Series in 2006, we have underperformed. The failure is unacceptable and we share your anguish.
As Ownership, we are ultimately responsible and have determined that changes are necessary to produce a winning team for the long term.
Earlier this morning, we relieved Omar Minaya of his duties as Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations & General Manager, and advised Jerry Manuel that we are declining to exercise the club's option on his contract as Manager for 2011. We appreciate all that Omar and Jerry have done for the Organization and thank them for their time and effort.
Changes like these are never easy, especially when dealing with people you like and respect.
We feel a fresh perspective in the leadership of our baseball department will elevate the performance of our club. That person will work with Ownership to hire a new Manager and will be responsible for creating a winning culture.
Thank you for the opportunity to do so.
