Late last year Luis Hernandez during a meaningless contest fouled a pitched off his foot. At that point Hernandez didn't know it but is foot was now broken. Still in the at bat he clocked a home run and then hobbled around the bases for it seemed like an hour.
Fast forward to spring 2011. There are four candidates for the Mets at 2nd base. Castillo,Murphy,Emaus and Justin Turner. I wasn't sure if the Mets just discounted Hernandez or he wasn't ready to come back. Well the 26 year old is back and he might get a shot at 2nd now since no one is really wowing the brass.
Castillo already was in the dog house for not taking pregame in fielding practice last week with Collins. The Manager said he would give Castillo more playing time which Castillo has been whining about. Hernandez might not show the offense that Murphy or Emaus can but he can play 2nd base and turn the DP.
Now that Hernandez is healthy again, Collins might just have added to the mix when he is ready to subtract from it. My take is send Emaus back since he really has not excelled and have Turner sent to the minors since he options. Then at most you will have 3 guys for the spot the last 2 weeks of the camp. Of course once Castillo complains again and Murphy turns a double play the Mets can say bye bye to Castillo. He just doesnt seem to be a Collins type guy . Of course yesterday Castillo was on base 3 times just to add fun to the drama.

Think the Mets could offer Castillo and Murphy to the Yanks for Robinson Cano? Salaries should be close, the Mets would get younger, the Yanks would get a stud like Murph, and Castillo's experience and leadership.
Love your site.
I loved to have a guy like Cano but the mets would have to pony up more then Murph and Castillo. Maybe they need a lefty.....
