Mets Top 10 Prospects
1. Jenrry Mejia, rhp – Played at two different levels in 2009: St. Lucie and Binghamton. Was 4-1 with a 1.97 ERA for St. Lucie. 44 strikeouts in 50.1 IP. Didn’t fare as well in Binghamton, going 0-5 with a 4.47 ERA.
2. Wilmer Flores, ss – Flores, only 17, played last season at Savannah of the Class A South Atlantic League, where he hit .264 with 3 HR’s and 36 RBI in 125 games.
3. Fernando Martinez, of – Played in 29 games for the Mets, hitting a paltry .176 in 91 AB’s. He hit one HR with 8 RBI before his season was cut short due to knee surgery.
4. Ike Davis, 1b - Played 55 games for the Binghamton Mets (AA). Hit .309 with 13 HR’s and 43 RBI. Is playing quite well in the AFL.
5. Brad Holt, rhp – Started 11 games for the Binghamton Mets (AA), going 3-6 with a 6.21 ERA. He started the season at St. Lucie, where he was 4-1 with a 3.12 ERA in 9 games.
6. Jon Niese, lhp – Started five games for the Mets, going 1-1 with a 4.21 ERA before being disabled for the remainder of the season due to a torn hamstring which required surgery.
7. Reese Havens, 2b/ss – hit .247 in 97 games for St. Lucie. Hit 14 HR’s with 52 RBI.
8. Josh Thole, c – Appeared in 17 games for the Mets coming down the home stretch. He hit .321 with 9 RBI in 53 AB’s. Will most likely play in Buffalo in 2010 to get some much needed experience.
9. Ruben Tejada, 2b/ss – Played 134 games for Binghamton (AA) where he hit .289, with 5 HR and 46 RBI. Is presently playing with the Surprise Rafters in the AFL.
10. Juan Urbina, lhp – signed out of Venezuela back on July 2, 2009. No stats available at this point.
I have this uneasy feeling that Fernando Martinez is this decades Alex Escobar; a five tool player, where all tools are broken and in the shed.
Ike Davis has performed well, and it is believed he might be in Flushing possibly by the end of the 2010 season, and definitely by the 2011 season.
