The Mets won 7-2 last night, against Colorado, and the effort was impressive. All 8 starting position players had at least one hit, as the Mets had 15 hits overall. Carlos Delgado hit his 11th HR of the season, and is on a pace for 24 -25 HR’s. Trot Nixon hit his first HR as a Met, and had a nice sliding catch in the bottom of the fourth. Endy Chavez had a great running catch, also in the 4th, and David Wright had a terrific, inning ending sliding catch near the 3rd base dugout, in the fifth. He also had his 55th RBI, and is on a pace for 123-124 RBI’s.
John Maine (7-5) pitched 6 and 2/3 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 6 hits, walking 3, striking out 6, and lowering his ERA to 3.78 as he earns his seventh victory. He was also allowed to throw 110 pitches, a trend I love, as some of the Mets’ starters are being allowed to cross the “dreaded” 100 pitch count.
Joe Smith, Pedro Feliciano & Aaron Heilman combined for 2 and 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing one hit, one walk, and striking out two.
The Mets also beat a quality pitcher, Aaron Cook, whose record drops to 10-4, by getting to him early, for six earned runs within the first three innings. Overall, a very impressive effort.

One bothersome point in last night's game was Schneider being thrown out (forced) at third after a single to RF by Reyes. This is the second or third base running by Schneider in a week. He needs to be more alert on the bases. It was a clean single, and instead of going half way from second, he went back to the bag. He wasn't going to tag up, so he should have gone half way.The force at third wasn't that close. It robbed Reyes of a hit, and prevented the Mets from scoring another run. C'mon Ryan, a little heads-up baseball.
