Alou-aggggh...

Let me hear the congregation shout...Alou-aggggh!

I have a dream..yes I do - that one day, players of every skin color, below the age of 40 will have an opportunity to play the outfield for the NY Mets. No more will they be judged by the color of their skin, but by the contents of their birth certificate.

Young at last? Young at last? Great God Almighty, young at last!

The immortal words of true Mets fans. Some might take today's news as bad. I don't. I believe this could be a positive for the present and future development of this team. They have to get younger, and with Alou out, they can concentrate on either their minor league system, which I believe isn't yet ready, or look to make a trade for a nice piece, like an Xavier Nady, or be creative in other ways. If Omar looks to acquire a Griffey Jr., Bonds, or Sosa - like much of NY Talk Radio is harping on, he will once again set this organization back five years. Omar, please listen to us...we need youth in the OF, not the aged and decrepit. If it might cost us this year, to be a contender for the next many years, it will be a price worth paying.

Hey, at least this didn't happen on the eve of the trading deadline, like what happened when Senior Filthy got hurt in the taxi accident... that incident possibly cost the Mets netting Roy Oswalt. They did get OP out of the deal, which has been a real good acquisition, but the timing of Alou's injury is more advantageous because it gives the Mets time to figure out which direction they are going. They must get younger.
