Luis Castillo To The Disabled List ?

Kevin Burkhardt, of SNY, reported during last night’s pre-game show, that Luis Castillo was trying to play, while recovering from having both knees operated on, and it’s led to other injuries.

Now, his left quad is sore, as well as his back.

Damion Easley has been starting in place of Castillo, but, it really limits manager Jerry Manuel’s roster flexibility. The Mets have 13 pitchers, and 12 position players, leaving only a 4-man bench. If Castillo is on the bench, but, barely healthy enough to play, then Manuel has a 3-man bench. Considering the catcher (Brian Schneider, Ramon Castro) not starting is held back from playing, in case of an injury to the starting catcher, this leaves a 2-man bench.

Regardless of how Luis Castillo feels, put him on the 15-day DL, and see if starts to heal. Managers and general managers are paid to manage the team, and the roster; not the players. Castillo’s opinion of his health is irrelevant. Players tend to be selfish, thinking about their own careers, and do not see the big picture.

Minaya & Manuel’s jobs are on the line if they do not win.

What are they waiting for ?

Stop waiting for days to decide whether or not to put a player onto the disabled list. They make this mistake repeatedly, and it’s infuriating to see that they do not learn from their mistakes.
