With a Phillie loss last night in LA, along with a Marlin loss at the hands of the Cardinals, the Mets moved in a first place tie with Philadelphia. Atlanta lost to the Cubs, thus making the Mets the only winner in the NL East last night.
The Mets are remembering last year's collapse when they were unable to beat the teams they should. Last year at crunch time, they were consistently losing to Washington, Florida, and Philadelphia. Recently, the Mets took two of three from the Marlins, and are looking for a sweep tonight against Washington. If the Mets continue to win these "easy" series, they will be in much better shape come the end of September.
