Well the media and Met fans don't have to worry if the bullpen is going to blow one. Jerry Manuel can put his mylanta away for the night. The Mets and John Maine pummeled the Nationals 12-0 tonight. Highlights include
John Maine pitching 5 innings and giving up only 1 hit over 5 innings with 4 walks and 6 strikeout. The Mets scored 8 times in the 3rd inning to put the game away. Maine looked good but did start to tire in the 5th but got out of a 1st and 2nd with 2 out jam .
Daniel Murphy led the attack with 3 hits and 3 rbis. He is hitting .467
Carlos Beltran had a double that plated 2.
The Nationals starter Jason Bergman gave up 10 runs, 6 earned in 3 innings. Christian Guzman had a double play ball go through his legs and the mets scored 5 times after that error.
A game ball has to go to Brian Stokes who gave the rest of the bullpen the night off with 4 innings of shutout ball. He looked really good out there tonight. He struck out 3 and walked none while giving up 3 hits.
I know that he had a tough year last year for the rays, but did the Mets give any thought to have Brain fill this role earlier in the year? I mean he is better suited for this role then Carlos Muniz ever was.
Mets go for the sweep Thursday night with Oliver Perez taking the mound
