Mets Take A "Shot" on Ayala

As reported yesterday, the Mets acquired Luis Ayala from the Washington Nationals for "a player to be named later..." that player is expected to be Anderson Hernandez.

Ayala, 30, has had a poor season thus far. He is 1-8, with 5.77 ERA in 62 appearances for the dreadful Nationals.

Ayala had undergone Tommy John surgery after pitching for Mexico in the World Baseball Classic, and missed the entire 2006 season.

This past off-season, Ayala was shot in his left arm by his friend in a hunting accident. He still has pellets in the affected arm.

Hopefully Ayala will provide a shot in the arm for over-used Met bullpen.
