Pedro Martinez – Will this be his last hurrah with the Mets?

With Pedro lately we never know if his next start will be his last for the Mets.

He brought credibility to the franchise when there wasn’t a lot of excitement going on at Shea just a few short years ago. When Pedro was pitching the fans would pack Shea because people loved how he pitched and how he was just an incredible showman.

He loved teasing the other team from the Mets dugout. During that first year he actually pitched pretty well for a team that was struggling for an identity. His record was 15-8 with an era under 3 with over 200 strikeouts in 31 starts.

He helped bring respectability to the Mets. All the players loved playing behind him in the field. Moses Alou once said he would use crutches if he had to.

Now we only see him in the rotation for a couple of starts before he gets hurt. We don’t need to rely on him as much with the likes of Johan Santana the new anointed ace of the staff. That being said we still appreciate him and hope he has more in that tank of his.

Pedro pitches tonight and I’m sure most people are worried if he will be able to make it through to 80 pitches that Jerry Manuel might keep him to. We also worry not knowing will he make it the rest of the season with another physical issue.

Let’s hope he makes it to the end of the season. We need him with Maine's status uncertain. I’d rather him go out with a roar then a whimper.
