Sunday Afternoon's Tribute

As some of you might be aware by now, I had published a post, Talk Me In Off The Ledge! criticizing the Mets for not properly respecting and celebrating players from days past. I stand by what I originally wrote, but I also want to credit the Mets for Sunday afternoon's special guest. The Mets had Mrs. Joan Hodges, Gil Hodges' widow, and Gil Hodges, Jr., Gil's son reveal #14.

We had a poll up asking who should be the celebrity to reveal #14, and Joan Hodges won with 85% of the vote.

It was a real class move by the Mets, but that being said, they still haven't done as well as they should have to pay tribute to Mets stars of yesteryear.

Sunday afternoon was the perfect decision.

Who should reveal the following numbers?

12 - John Stearns? Ron Darling? Ken Boswell? Jeff Kent? Roberto Alomar?

11- Roy McMillan? Wayne Garrett? Lenny Randle? Frank Taveras? Tim Teufel? Joe McEwing? Ramon Castro?

10 - Rod Kanehl (D)?, Duffy Dyer? Rusty Staub? Rey Ordonez? Endy Chavez?

I realize there are a lot of choices, but all are better than employees other than ball players, corporate sponsors, etc. The Mets have already prostituted their new stadium out to Citi Corp, they don't need to do it when tearing down the days remaining at Shea.

The Wilpons did a great job by having Mrs. Hodges reveal #14, but they certainly should have done a much better job throughout the season. Let's hope they finish up this whole number thing with a blast!

Good post and I'm glad the mets did the right thing bringing in Joan Hodges and even better that they gave her a suite . Not like Bobby O who got a loge seat . :)
