K-Rod Drops First Bomb

The Mets new closer, Francisco 'K-Rod' Rodriguez is showing his new team and fans his competitive nature.

Today Ken Davidoff – Newsday reports that Rodriguez, when discussing the Phillies, said, “Of course we're going to be the frontrunner,.of course were going to be the team to beat.”

"I don't want there to be a controversy. I don't want the other team to take it personally, or take it in a bad way. But I'm a really competitive guy. I like to win"

Added K-Rod, "If they ask me, "Who's going to be the ball club that will win the National League East, it'll be the Mets."

Nice to hear a refreshing attitude. Between K-Rod and JJ Putz, the Mets have at least insured they have two very qualified pitchers to close out games.

The big plus is if Rodriguez gets injured, Putz can ably step in and do the job, unlike last year when Wagner went down.

I, along with longislandmetfan (here), will miss Endy very much. When has NY had a back-up player so adored by the fans? Endy will always have a special place in our hearts; for his hustle, athleticism, defensive prowess, and clutch plays. Fortunately, the Mets are a better team today than they were at the end of 2008. Unfortunately it came at the cost of Endy.

I love that K-Rod fired the first shot. Let's just hope the Mets are still standing after all the shots have been fired in 2009.
