Mets show interest in Juan Pierre?

Not sure why but according to Ken Rosenthal at Fox Sports, the Mets have shown interest in the dodgers Juan Pierre.

Rosenthal writes
"The idea is a longshot, but the Mets have shown interest in trading for Pierre, the Dodgers' forgotten outfielder.
To move Pierre, the Dodgers would need to assume a large chunk of his remaining salary "

Also Pierre bats from the left side so not sure why the Mets have any interest in him besides his speed at the top of the lineup. He is no better then Castillo offensively is nothing like the player he was when he was with the Marlins. He did have a better year in 08 .
