Omar heads to Vega$ Time to make a move for a 8th and 9th inning guys

If you look at it this way, if the Mets somehow made it into the 2008 playoffs I'm sure somewhere during the first playoff series we as Met fans would have been seeing a home run shot flying out of Shea by the opposite team off someone like Aaron Heilman. Maybe it would have been Pedro Feliciano walking in the go ahead run. Or Luis Ayala giving up a gopher ball to tie it. The sense is the relievers are the reason the Mets did not make the playoffs and I am sure would have prevented the Mets to do what the Phillies did.

With that being said Omar Minaya is on his way to Vegas to hopefully make the Mets a sure thing when it comes to a win when they have a lead in the 8th and 9th inning. The Mets need 2 sure fire relievers that can get outs in the 8th and 9th innings. They could use someone who can get a strikeout. Remember those? I mean who wants to sit on the edge of the seat when it comes to the last 2 innings? We are not to far removed from the Armando Benitez days of closing. I want to watch to see the Mets grab a lead and the opposing team feel deflated. I mean the Phillies Lidge did not blow a save in 2008. Not one!

Can we somehow maybe have a closer that when he gets in the game can shut the door. Can we have a 8th inning guy who doesn't walk off the mound after just getting 1 out in the 8th and giving up a hit and walk.

I would like to see Jerry Manuel not burn a path in the Cit Field grass from the dugout to the mound changing relievers. Hope that is not too much too ask.

Take a moment to see the list of what closers are available which Joel Sherman has listed here
